Today we narrowed down our song choices!
After doing some research, Nati and I found that in order to obtain permission to use certain songs, we could contact music rights organizations rather than the artists themselves. SESAC is a music rights organization that can provide sync licenses for many popular songs. Along with this, we found a website where you type the artist or song name and it tells you if SESAC owns licenses for specific songs.
First we are looking for a song for when the subject is slightly older, and is sad. Though there weren’t many options, Nati and I found Sam Smith, a well known artist that has many sad songs, on the list of the website. Smith’s song, Stay With Me was on it. This will be our main option, but due to SESAC being a popular organization, we may not hear back from them with enough time.
As a backup, Nati and I found a website with multiple different sad/piano songs that are royalty free. We will use these if we do not hear back from SESAC or if the license costs a lot of money.

For the second song, we are looking for a rock song to fit the oldest subject’s vibe. During this time the subject has turned her sadness into anger, and is in a rebellious stage in her life. Listening to heavy metal rock will go along with how she feels perfectly. For this, I found a website that provides a long list of royalty free songs under the genre of rock.
